Sell Hermès Kelly

SELL YOUR Hermès Kelly for Cash in Brooklyn, NYC

The Kelly is the older of the two Hermès icons — it began life as the Sac à dépêches in the 1930s and took Grace Kelly's name in 1977. For years it traded slightly behind the Birkin. That gap has narrowed considerably, and in the Sellier 25 it has closed entirely.

The distinction that matters most commercially is Sellier versus Retourne. A Sellier is stitched on the outside and holds a rigid, architectural shape. A Retourne is stitched inside and turned, which softens the silhouette and rounds the corners. They are the same bag by name and quite different bags by demand, and the Sellier currently carries a clear premium in the smaller sizes.

It is worth being direct about the trade-off buyers weigh: the Kelly has one handle and a flap that closes over the top, so it is less practical than a Birkin day to day. That has never hurt its desirability, but it does mean the Kelly market rewards the sizes people actually carry.

What Moves The Number

WHAT YOUR Offer DEPENDS ON

Sellier or Retourne

The first thing we establish. Sellier construction — stitched on the outside, rigid, sharp-cornered — carries a clear premium at 25 and 28 right now. Retourne is softer and more wearable and sits below it, though a Retourne in excellent condition still prices strongly.

Corners and flap edge

On a Sellier especially, the corners are exposed and take wear directly. The leading edge of the flap is the second wear point, because it meets the body of the bag every time it closes. Both are visible to any buyer at a glance.

Strap condition

The shoulder strap is detachable, which means it is also the part that goes missing. It also wears independently of the bag — a pristine Kelly with a cracked, folded strap is a common and avoidable value loss.

Size against current demand

The 25 and 28 are where the market is concentrated. The 32 and 35 are beautiful bags that take longer to place, and our offer reflects the difference in how quickly they move rather than any judgement about the bag itself.

FAQs

HERMÈS KELLY Questions

Is a Kelly worth as much as a Birkin?

It used to sit clearly behind, and that is no longer reliably true. A Sellier Kelly 25 in a neutral leather can match or exceed a comparable Birkin. In the larger sizes the Birkin still tends to lead. Which of the two is worth more depends entirely on the specific pair of bags, not on the model name.

What is the difference between Sellier and Retourne?

Sellier is stitched on the outside, giving a rigid, sharply structured bag. Retourne is stitched inside and turned right way out, which softens the shape and rounds the corners. Sellier currently commands a premium at 25 and 28. If you are not sure which you have, we will tell you when you bring it in.

Will you buy a Kelly without the shoulder strap?

Yes, though the strap has real independent value and its absence is one of the more noticeable gaps to a buyer. If you still have it — even if it is worn or cracked — bring it with the bag.

Does the Kelly hold its value?

Very well, for the same structural reason the Birkin does. Hermès does not sell these on demand, so the secondary market is where most buyers have to transact, and that supports pricing over time rather than eroding it.

My Kelly's corners are rubbed. Is it still worth selling?

Yes, and corner wear is the most common condition we see. It moves the tier rather than disqualifying the bag. We will show you exactly what we are pricing and why.
